Queen 2020 UK Quarter-Ounce Gold Proof Coin – Music Legends Series
This quarter-ounce gold proof coin launched The Royal Mint's Music Legends series, making Queen the first band ever to feature on official UK coinage. Struck to mark the band's 50th anniversary, the reverse — designed by Chris Facey — pays tribute to all four founding members through their instruments: Brian May's self-built "Red Special" guitar, John Deacon's Fender Precision bass, Roger Taylor's Ludwig bass drum, and Freddie Mercury's Bechstein grand piano, its keys pressed down to the opening notes of "Bohemian Rhapsody". The word "QUEEN" sits at the centre, underlined by a microphone stand, and the design carried official approval from surviving band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
The obverse carries Jody Clark's fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This coin is supplied boxed in its original Royal Mint presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity, to Fleur de Coin (FDC) standard — the Royal Mint's own designation for a flawless proof strike, as issued.

Why This Coin Stands Out
As the coin that launched the entire Music Legends series, this piece holds a genuine "first of its kind" status — the first time a British rock band appeared on official UK coinage. With official approval from the band themselves and a maximum edition of 1,350, it's a natural starting point for anyone collecting the series, and a strong standalone piece for Queen fans.
As UK legal tender gold, this coin is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and free from VAT under current investment gold rules.
