The 2017 Gold Proof Sovereign marks one of the most important modern issues in the entire series, celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the modern Sovereign introduced in 1817. To honour the occasion, the Royal Mint revived the iconic Garter-surrounded St George and the Dragon design, last seen on Victorian sovereigns. The result is one of the most visually distinctive and historically significant Sovereigns of the 21st century.
This example has been graded PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC, the highest grade possible and awarded only to flawless proof strikes. The mirrored fields, crisp detail and deep cameo frosting show no marks or imperfections under magnification. As collectors seek perfect examples from key anniversary years, 2017 PF70 Sovereigns have become increasingly difficult to source.
The combination of a special-occasion design, anniversary significance and perfect grading makes this one of the most desirable modern Sovereigns. It appeals equally to collectors completing PF70 runs and investors seeking historically notable proof issues.

Why collectors value the 2017 issue
The 200th Anniversary Sovereign is widely viewed as a milestone release. Its Garter reverse, anniversary significance and low PF70 populations have pushed growing interest from long-term collectors, making it one of the most frequently requested proof Sovereigns in perfect grade.
