Struck to mark 30 years since Philip Nathan's original Britannia design first launched the series in 1987, this 2017 tenth-ounce coin carries a specially reworked reverse by Louis Tamlyn, a fine art student at Central Saint Martins selected by The Royal Mint to reinterpret Britannia for her landmark anniversary year. Tamlyn's design keeps Britannia's familiar shield, Corinthian helmet and olive branch, but introduces a distinctive radial sunburst background behind her — a modern security feature as much as an artistic one — alongside a special trident mint mark incorporating the number "30" to mark the anniversary.
Unlike the 22 carat gold used across the range's first 26 years, this coin is struck in 999.9 fine gold (24 carat), reflecting the standard adopted by The Royal Mint from 2013 onward. The obverse carries Jody Clark's fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
