About this coin
The same one-year Timothy Noad design, certified by the other major grading house. This 2005 gold proof half sovereign is PCGS PR70 DCAM — PCGS's equivalent of NGC's PF70 Ultra Cameo, and the top of their scale. It's a separately submitted, separately certified example of the design-change year, giving buyers who prefer PCGS slabs — or who already hold the NGC example and want both — a genuine alternative rather than a re-listing.
Grade & Certification
PCGS PR70 DCAM denotes a flawless proof strike with no detectable imperfections even under magnification (PR70), and strong frosted-versus-mirror contrast between the design and the fields (Deep Cameo). It's certified independently of, and graded on the same 70-point scale as, NGC's PF70 Ultra Cameo — different house, same ceiling.
The Timothy Noad Reverse, Briefly
2005 was a design-change year: instead of Benedetto Pistrucci's familiar St George and the Dragon, the half sovereign carried a one-year-only reinterpretation by heraldic artist Timothy Noad, struck alongside matching full and double sovereigns before the Mint reverted the following year. See our other Seventy Select coins for the matching full and double sovereign examples of this same design.

Can I verify the coin's grade?
Yes. Every NGC-certified coin has a unique certification number visible on the slab label. You can verify the grade, coin details and population data at NGCcoin.uk using the cert number shown.
What is the population or top pop figure?
The NGC census records how many examples of each coin have been graded at each level. A Top Pop coin means no other example has achieved a higher grade — making it the finest certified specimen in existence for that issue.
Do you offer part exchange?
Yes. We accept all proof coins and graded coins in part exchange, including NGC and PCGS certified coins, boxed gold and silver proofs, and proof sets.
Tell us what you'd like to trade and which coin you have your eye on, and we'll give you a bespoke cost-to-change valuation.
