1995 Tenth-Ounce Gold Proof Britannia – NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo
This 1995 Britannia carries Philip Nathan's classic "standing Britannia" design — the reverse that has defined the series since its 1987 launch — showing Britannia poised on a clifftop with trident and shield, her robes caught in the wind. By 1995, the range's alloy had shifted from the copper used in the earliest 1987–1989 issues to silver, a change introduced in 1990 that remained standard until the range moved to 24 carat gold in 2013.
The obverse carries Raphael Maklouf's third definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, used on UK coinage between 1985 and 1997.
Graded NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo — the maximum attainable grade, reflecting a flawless strike with no imperfections under magnification and strong cameo contrast between the frosted devices and mirrored fields. Remarkably, only 14 examples of this coin have ever been certified at this top grade, making it a genuinely difficult coin to find in perfect condition despite its small size and age.

Why This Coin Stands Out
Tenth-ounce Britannias are often overlooked by collectors chasing larger denominations, but a population of just 14 at PF70 Ultra Cameo shows how genuinely hard perfection is to achieve on a coin this small — every imperfection is magnified relative to the coin's size. Combined with an accessible price point, this is a strong pick for collectors who care more about grading rarity than headline size.
As UK legal tender gold, this coin is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and free from VAT under current investment gold rules. Browse our full range of graded gold Sovereigns to explore more rare and top-graded Britannia coins.
