The 1989 Gold Proof Five Sovereign is widely considered one of the most iconic and significant modern sovereigns ever struck by The Royal Mint. Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of the first gold sovereign, the 1989 edition breaks from tradition with a completely unique design on both sides.
The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II seated on the coronation throne, designed by Bernard Sindall – a nod to the original sovereigns of Henry VII. The reverse showcases a Tudor rose with a crowned shield, replacing the usual St George and the Dragon. This radical and highly detailed design is exclusive to the 1989 release.
This coin has been professionally graded PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC, the highest possible grade, signifying a flawless proof strike with strong contrast and immaculate surfaces. PF70 examples of the five sovereign are extremely scarce and highly sought-after by collectors and investors alike.

We offer free insured delivery across the UK on all orders. Every coin is carefully inspected, securely packaged, and sent using Royal Mail Special Delivery - a fully tracked, next-day service that requires a signature on receipt.
All parcels are shipped discreetly and fully insured for peace of mind.
We currently do not ship internationally. Orders can only be delivered to the UK address provided at checkout, and we’re unable to send to PO Box addresses.

Returns Policy
