About this coin

The 2027 Sovereign Reverse Frosted Gold Proof Two-Coin Set is one of the scarcest releases in The Royal Mint's 2027 Sovereign range. Limited to just 100 sets and offered exclusively to Mint Marque customers, it pairs two full Sovereigns of the same year and design, each struck to a different finish: one Reverse Frosted Proof and one standard Proof.

Seen side by side, the two coins show Pistrucci's St George and the Dragon in two completely different lights. The standard proof pairs frosted design elements with mirror-like fields; the reverse frosted proof turns that contrast around, with frosted fields and a mirrored design. It's a set that rewards being held in the hand and tilted under the light.

Just 100 Sets, Mint Marque Only

With only 100 sets issued, this is a far smaller edition than the standalone reverse frosted Sovereign and a tiny fraction of the standard annual proof issue. Mint Marque releases are reserved for customers with an established purchasing history at The Royal Mint, so they rarely reach the open market, and complete sets in original presentation even less so.

Both coins are struck in 22 carat yellow gold, continuing the return to the Sovereign's traditional alloy introduced in 2026. The obverse carries Martin Jennings' definitive portrait of King Charles III; the reverse is Benedetto Pistrucci's St George and the Dragon, the design that has defined the Sovereign since 1817.

What is the difference between the two coins?
Design, weight and size are identical. The standard proof has mirrored fields with a frosted design; the reverse frosted proof inverts this, with frosted fields and a mirrored design.

Why is this set so hard to find?
Only 100 sets were issued, and only to Mint Marque customers of The Royal Mint.

Delivery Information

We offer free insured delivery across the UK on all orders. Every coin is carefully inspected, securely packaged, and sent using Royal Mail Special Delivery - a fully tracked, next-day service that requires a signature on receipt.

All parcels are shipped discreetly and fully insured for peace of mind.

We currently do not ship internationally. Orders can only be delivered to the UK address provided at checkout, and we’re unable to send to PO Box addresses.

We aim to dispatch all orders within one business day of receiving cleared payment. Once your order has been dispatched, you’ll receive tracking details so you can monitor its progress.

Returns Policy

For non-bullion items (such as proof coins, graded coins or accessories), we’re happy to accept returns within 14 days of receipt if you feel your coin is not as described and provided the item is returned in its original condition, please contact us and we’ll be glad to help.

If an item is returned for reasons other than being not as described, return postage will be the responsibility of the buyer.

Can I verify the coin's grade?

Yes. Every NGC-certified coin has a unique certification number visible on the slab label. You can verify the grade, coin details and population data at NGCcoin.uk using the cert number shown.

What is the population or top pop figure?

The NGC census records how many examples of each coin have been graded at each level. A Top Pop coin means no other example has achieved a higher grade — making it the finest certified specimen in existence for that issue.

Do you offer part exchange?

Yes. We accept all proof coins and graded coins in part exchange, including NGC and PCGS certified coins, boxed gold and silver proofs, and proof sets.
