The Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen 2022 Quarter-Ounce Gold Proof Coin
Struck to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II becoming the first British monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee — 70 years on the throne — this quarter-ounce gold proof coin carries two entirely new designs by veteran coinage artist John Bergdahl, both used exclusively across the 2022 Platinum Jubilee collection.
The obverse features a special one-year-only equestrian portrait of Her Majesty on horseback, encircled by a decorative garter bearing the motto of the Order of the Garter, "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE". The image echoes the 1953 Coronation Crown and the 2002 Golden Jubilee Crown, both of which also depicted the Queen on horseback, temporarily replacing Jody Clark's fifth definitive coinage portrait for this commemorative range. The reverse shows a quartered shield of the Royal Arms, draped beneath an ornate royal mantle inspired by the coinage of King William IV — a design intended to evoke the robes worn by Her Majesty at her 1953 coronation.
This coin is supplied boxed in its original Royal Mint presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Why This Coin Stands Out
A Platinum Jubilee is a genuinely once-in-a-lifetime royal milestone, and this coin captures it with a pair of purpose-made designs rather than the standard definitive portrait — including a rare equestrian obverse that temporarily set aside Jody Clark's regular effigy. With a capped mintage of 1,110, it's a fitting, historically resonant piece for collectors of royal commemorative gold.
As UK legal tender gold, this coin is exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK residents and free from VAT under current investment gold rules. Browse our full range of graded gold Sovereigns to explore more royal commemorative gold.
