Issued to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the modern Sovereign, the 2017 Gold Strike on the Day Sovereign is a rare and sought-after limited edition release from The Royal Mint. Struck on 1 July 2017 to mark exactly two centuries since the first modern sovereign was produced in 1817, this edition features a plain edge and was only available for one day.

This coin is finished to brilliant uncirculated (BU) standard with a satin-matte appearance, distinguishing it visually from both bullion and proof versions. The obverse bears the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, while the reverse displays the iconic Pistrucci St George and the Dragon design, used in both the 1817 and 2017 issues.

With a strictly limited mintage of only 1,786 coins, this Strike on the Day edition has become a key date for modern sovereign collectors and is often regarded as one of the standout commemorative issues of the modern era.

Each coin was individually struck and issued in a Royal Mint presentation case, complete with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
